On December 3, 1988, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Rho Xi Omega Chapter was chartered by 80 dynamic women. They believed Baltimore would be better served with the establishment of a second graduate chapter. The chartering was completed under the leadership of Soror Idell Pugh, the North Atlantic Regional Director. Our chapter was grounded in a need, a desire to expand the reach of Alpha Kappa Alpha in Baltimore. This foundation has guided our chapter growth, execution of programs of service, and sisterly spirit since 1988.

In 1990, our chapter established a charitable nonprofit organization, Cultured Pearls of Service, Incorporated (formerly known as Rho Xi Omega Charities, Incorporated), as its public service arm to more effectively manage its programs of service and expand funding opportunities.

Since its inception, Rho Xi Omega Chapter has served the Baltimore community in numerous capacities through its education, health, and family initiatives. The chapter has raised thousands of dollars by participating in the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake’s Bowl for Kids’ Sake, and during the early years in the AIDSWalk.

Rho Xi Omega Chapter has awarded well over $125,000 in scholarships to college-bound students. In 2005, our chapter became the first fraternal organization to finalize a $10,000 scholarship endowment at the Baltimore City Community College.
